About the Role
Ryanair Engineering is seeking a Safety Engineer to join its Base / Heavy Maintenance teams, focusing exclusively on Ryanair Group aircraft. The Safety Engineer will bolster Safety Management System (SMS) principles and promote local accountability for safety by acting as the focal point for occurrence investigations at the Heavy Maintenance base level. Reporting to the Base Maintenance Manager, the role ensures that Engineering Safety Reports and occurrences are addressed by experienced, operational personnel. Close coordination with the Safety Department is essential to maintain consistency, quality, and regulatory compliance. This position offers access to all management and production levels to effectively perform safety duties across any Heavy Maintenance site, with employment based locally at the selected site.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate maintenance errors and technical-related aircraft incidents.
- Review and analyze events affecting the safety of Ryanair and Heavy Maintenance operations.
- Manage the administration of safety occurrences within the safety reporting system.
- Prepare comprehensive safety reports and documentation.
- Coordinate response to safety reports among production personnel.
- Identify hazards, support risk assessments, and monitor implementation of mitigation measures.
- Facilitate communication concerning safety matters with internal and external parties.
- Contribute to the creation of safety-related materials such as presentations, newsletters, and briefings.
- Collaborate closely with Compliance Monitoring, Technical Standards, Maintenance Management, and other departments to promote continuous improvement and operational safety.
Essential Requirements
- Holds an EASA B1 or B2 license or equivalent aviation qualifications/degree along with practical experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to obtain airport security clearance.
- Possession of a valid passport with unrestricted travel rights within the UK/EU and a valid driver’s license.
Desirable Qualifications (Training Available)
- Understanding of aviation safety standards and safety investigation processes.
- Basic knowledge of EASA/UK CAA regulatory frameworks.
- Familiarity with Safety Management System (SMS) methodologies.
- Experience conducting root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement strategies.
- Willingness to travel among Heavy Maintenance bases and the Ryanair network.
