About the Role

Join Wessex Internet, a reputable broadband provider dedicated to enhancing rural connectivity across the South West of England. We are expanding our coverage in areas including the New Forest, Wiltshire, and South & West Dorset, and seek skilled Groundworkers to grow our dedicated in-house team.

The role involves applying trenchless installation techniques such as Mole Plough and Directional Drilling, alongside operating various plant machinery like 2.7-ton Kubota diggers in diverse and scenic outdoor settings. This is ideal for those passionate about hands-on outdoor work seeking a stable, supportive environment with strong team camaraderie.

Responsibilities

  • Operate machinery and equipment for installing fibre optic cables, manholes, and telecom cabinets.
  • Assist trenchless fibre installation teams using mole plough and directional drilling technology.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and undertake routine maintenance tasks.
  • Identify site challenges and collaborate with team leaders to maintain project momentum.
  • Enforce strict health and safety protocols and promptly report any hazards or concerns.
  • Guide and support less experienced team members during site work.

Candidate Requirements

  • Background in civils, utilities, groundwork, or rural infrastructure projects.
  • Hold a valid UK manual driving licence.
  • Physically robust with a willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Proficiency or familiarity with operating plant machinery; licenses are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in excavation, installing ducts, or laying pipes and cables.
  • Comfortable working in agricultural or remote rural environments.
  • Demonstrate a proactive, problem-solving mindset and a collaborative, team-oriented attitude.

Additional Advantages (Not Mandatory)

  • B+E trailer driving licence.
  • CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
  • Street Works certification and Cable Avoidance Tools operation (CAT & Genny).
  • Competency in operating 10-ton excavators.

Employee Benefits

  • Salary range from £30,000 to £36,000 annually depending on experience.
  • Opportunities for career growth including supervisory and leadership roles.
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays; option to buy or sell up to 5 days.
  • Private medical insurance, life assurance, and income protection coverage.
  • Cycle to Work and technology purchase schemes.
  • Enhanced family leave policies.
  • Significant staff broadband discounts (75%).
  • Access to high street discounts with over 100 major retailers.
  • Company-sponsored social events during summer and Christmas.
  • Chance to contribute to a company with a sustainable and visionary future.
