About the Role

Transport for NSW is seeking a dedicated Road Worker to join their team in Gundagai, NSW. This permanent full-time position involves crucial road maintenance and emergency response operations on the Hume Highway and other state roads managed by the Hume Motorway Office. The successful candidate will work a 9-day fortnight schedule and be responsible for a variety of manual and plant-based tasks essential to maintaining road safety and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct maintenance and respond promptly to road incidents on the Hume Highway and other state-managed routes.
  • Perform diverse manual labor and maintenance operations utilizing both powered and non-powered hand tools and equipment.
  • Execute road works including widening, barrier installation, pavement improvements, overtaking lane construction, and heavy patching.
  • Travel within the region to attend various work sites, respond to emergency call-outs, and undertake night shifts as necessary.
  • Adhere to the 9-day fortnight work pattern, ensuring availability for flexible working hours, including outside standard times.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

Ideal candidates will be practical, adaptable, and team-oriented with a careful attention to detail and experience in similar roadwork or civil construction roles. Effective communication skills and the willingness to engage in physical outdoor labor are essential.

  • Previous experience as a Road Worker (Grade 1–3) or related civil construction laboring role.
  • Possession of a current Construction Industry White Card.
  • Valid unrestricted NSW motor vehicle driver's license.
  • Commitment to complete any required licensing, training, or ticketing as mandated.
  • Preferred qualifications include Traffic Control tickets and truck licenses ranging from Medium Rigid to Heavy Rigid, though these are not mandatory.
  • Residency within 100 km of the Gundagai works depot.
  • Willingness to work outside regular hours, respond to call-outs, travel within the district, and spend time away from home as needed.
