About the Role
The position of Reporter involves investigating, gathering, verifying, and disseminating information for various media formats, including news stories, articles, interviews, and online publications. The job emphasizes spotting pertinent issues, crafting factual reports, conducting thorough research, and effectively communicating information to diverse audiences through multiple channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep track of current events, sector changes, public disclosures, social media, and official notifications to discover prospective story themes.
- Perform comprehensive background investigations, confirm accuracy of information, identify trustworthy references, and accumulate data needed to produce well-organized and insightful content.
- Carry out interviews with individuals, organizations, specialists, and other relevant sources to acquire firsthand insights and varied viewpoints, including preparing questions, scheduling, note-taking, recording essential details, and using verified quotations in published materials.
- Draft, revise, and polish news articles, features, urgent updates, online stories, and other editorial content adhering to established editorial guidelines, ensuring clarity, fairness, relevance, and appropriateness for the target readers and platform.
- Research supplementary materials, verify facts and sources, follow up on developing news, update published content with new information, and cooperate with editors, visual media staff, social media teams, and other media personnel.
- Contribute to digital media by creating headlines, summaries, social media content, newsletters, multimedia stories, and web features, while monitoring audience interaction and trending topics to find timely coverage opportunities.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Communications, English, Public Relations, or a related discipline.
- Comprehensive knowledge of journalism ethics, news writing, editorial standards, and responsible data collection.
- Proficiency in writing, editing, proofreading, and research techniques.
- Capability to detect relevant story perspectives and develop lucid, captivating, and informative narratives.
- Excellent fact-checking and source verification abilities with precise attention to dependability.
- Experience in conducting interviews, formulating questions, and maintaining professional communication with sources to acquire pertinent data.
- Understanding of news composition, headline crafting, lead writing, story development, and editorial content techniques.
- Familiarity with digital journalism, web publishing tools, social platforms, email newsletters, and multimedia content creation.
- Skill in sourcing information through official records, databases, public documents, and credible online outlets.
- Strong critical thinking enabling discrimination between verified facts and unreliable or misleading information.
- Adaptable writing skills suited for various audiences, topics, formats, and media channels.
- Effective time management to juggle multiple assignments, research activities, and editorial deadlines.
- Meticulous attention to detail in verifying names, dates, figures, quotations, sources, and facts.
- Familiarity with content management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, or equivalent software tools.
- Ability to collaborate with editors, journalists, photographers, videographers, producers, and other media professionals seamlessly.
- Knowledge of media ethics including confidentiality, copyright laws, attribution standards, and principled reporting.
