Role Overview
As a Quantity Surveyor specializing in infrastructure, you will oversee all commercial and contractual components of infrastructure projects throughout their construction phases. Your role will center on stringent cost control, precise measurement and valuation, procurement management, and contract administration to protect project budgets and commercial interests.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and scrutinize Bills of Quantities, quantity take-offs, cost estimations, and tender documents specific to infrastructure projects.
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, and contracts to determine scope, quantities, and commercial requirements.
- Execute detailed quantity measurements for infrastructure construction tasks.
- Develop and assess interim payment claims, payment certificates, and final accounts.
- Track project costs, commitments, changes, and expenses in line with approved budgets.
- Negotiate and evaluate variations, extra work, omissions, and change orders with contractors and subcontractors.
- Assess claims, time extension requests, and other contractual issues in collaboration with project teams.
- Manage commercial matters related to subcontractors and suppliers including quantities, valuations, payments, and settlements.
- Contribute to tender evaluation, commercial benchmarking, rate analysis, and subcontractor discussions.
- Ensure compliance of all commercial activities with contract terms, project needs, and budgetary constraints.
- Monitor project progress and coordinate with all stakeholders to verify accurate valuation of completed work.
- Maintain thorough records of measurements, valuations, variations, claims, and correspondence.
- Produce regular cost reports, forecasts, cash flow analyses, and commercial updates for management.
- Assist in contract administration to ensure adherence to contractual processes and implement commercial best practices.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities, advising management on cost and risk strategies.
- Support preparation and resolution of final accounts ensuring timely closure of financial matters.
- Provide commercial and surveying input during project meetings, progress reviews, and contractual discussions.
Candidate Requirements
- Degree holder in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related fields.
- A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in quantity surveying or commercial management within construction.
- At least 5 years’ experience working on infrastructure projects within the UAE is mandatory.
- Demonstrated expertise in infrastructure projects such as roads, utilities, drainage, stormwater systems, sewerage, and wet utilities.
- In-depth knowledge of quantity surveying practices including cost control, measurement, valuation, procurement, and contract administration.
- Hands-on experience preparing and auditing BOQs, cost forecasts, interim payments, contract variations, claims, and final financial settlements.
- Familiarity with UAE construction norms, contractual regulations, and relevant standards.
- Understanding of FIDIC contracts and experience with contractual claims and variations is a plus.
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills, alongside excellent communication and commercial management capabilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and quantity surveying or commercial management software tools.
- Able to interpret technical documentation including drawings, specifications, contracts, and BOQs.
Minimum education
Bachelor's Degree
