Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a Psychologist to join our Lower Hutt office, either on a permanent basis or to cover fixed-term parental leave. This role focuses on delivering effective, equitable psychological services to support children and young people with additional learning needs, consistent with the Ministry of Education's objectives and policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize a strengths-based approach in psychological practice.
- Identify patterns or factors influencing learning, wellbeing, and behavior.
- Promote inclusivity in early learning environments, schools, and other educational contexts.
- Work collaboratively to support progress toward learner goals.
- Provide guidance and support to schools, teachers, and families/whānau in developing and implementing intervention plans.
- Conduct assessments, analyses, and hypotheses to aid in planning and monitoring individual and group intervention strategies for students with additional learning needs.
Candidate Profile
- Experience working within complex organizations.
- Strong skills in relationship-building and partnerships for shared outcomes.
- Proven ability to work with children, young people, and families across diverse settings.
- Experience in counseling, negotiation, mediation, and contract management.
- Ability to use data insights to detect trends, risks, and opportunities to influence decision-making.
- Master’s degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Psychology or equivalent.
- Registered Psychologist in New Zealand with a valid practicing certificate.
- Capability to translate specialist psychological knowledge into actionable information.
- Expertise in coordinating services within multi-agency and trans-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with learners, families, and teachers.
- Understanding and application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga principles.
- Full New Zealand driver’s license as travel will be required.
- Commitment to uphold Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

The Education Services Group delivers integrated education services that support operational excellence in education settings, aiming to remove barriers and improve student achievement and participation. The group focuses on practice and guidance, integrated service delivery, and service monitoring and improvement nationwide.
Salary and Benefits
Annual salary ranges from NZD 85,416 to NZD 126,000, inclusive of KiwiSaver contributions. Appointment will be based on relevant experience and skills.
