Job description

About Datacom

Datacom partners with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to create meaningful impact in people's lives, helping businesses leverage technology to innovate and expand.

Role Overview

The Programme Director holds sole accountability for one of the company's most complex and high-value enterprise programmes. As a key member of Datacom's delivery leadership team, you will define the programme vision, lead delivery efforts, and ensure the achievement of outcomes at scale. This role requires single-point ownership for strategic, commercial, and operational delivery without shared leadership.

You will integrate strategic clarity, technology insight, commercial rigor, and operational excellence to harmonise multiple workstreams. Engaging confidently with executive stakeholders, you'll influence senior leadership decisions, offer data-driven counsel, and maintain strong alignment with organisational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing programme goals aligned with wider organisational aims and mapping out roadmaps for delivery.
  • Directing programme planning, governance structures, and quality assurance to drive successful outcomes.
  • Handling complex multi-platform technical environments, coordinating project teams, and managing senior stakeholder relationships.
  • Controlling programme timelines, budgets, risks, and resource allocation in accordance with commercial and contractual commitments.
  • Leading change management initiatives to realise expected business value.
  • Mentoring and guiding Programme Managers across multiple streams to ensure sustained success.
  • Managing stakeholder communications, reporting mechanisms, and decision-making processes, supported by clear metrics and documentation.
  • Contributing to pre-sales, bid preparation, and ongoing enhancements to programme strategies.
  • Ensuring adherence to Datacom’s strategic objectives, risk policies, and delivery standards.

Candidate Profile

  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in programme management within diverse and evolving IT service settings.
  • At least 10 years of managing complex programmes utilizing both Agile and Waterfall project methodologies.
  • Evidence of successful leadership and delivery of large-scale programmes in multi-vendor environments, handling dependencies, commercial relationships, governance, and partner coordination.
  • Strong expertise in commercial, financial, and contractual governance of delivery projects.
  • Proficient in risk management, senior stakeholder engagement, and team leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, comfortable influencing Executive and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Highly skilled with project and programme management tools.
  • Relevant programme management certifications such as PRINCE2, PMI, MSP, PgMP, PMP, or equivalents.
  • Agile certifications such as PSM1, CSM, SAFe, or comparable qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Project Director (CPD) or related advanced qualifications.
  • Degree qualifications in Business, IT, or related fields at Bachelor’s or Master’s level.
  • Certifications in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Lean methodology, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated application of Datacom’s core values to promote personal and organisational growth.
