Job description
About the Role
Join a highly skilled and cooperative Engineering team dedicated to advancing pharmaceutical process research and development. Our focus is to accelerate patient access to life-changing medicines across diverse therapeutic areas by integrating innovative technologies. We aim to drive process improvement and digital transformation through Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and advanced modeling for next-generation biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary research team to plan, organize, and execute R&D programs for pharmaceutical process development.
- Design and implement scaled-down laboratory models of pharmaceutical unit operations to optimize manufacturing-scale processes.
- Create and enhance digital workflows encompassing process monitoring, data collection, chemometric analysis, and integration.
- Lead adoption and application of new technologies, especially PAT, for both upstream and downstream bioprocessing unit operations.
- Prepare, review, and present technical reports and project updates to stakeholders and clients.
- Apply engineering concepts, formulas, and computational techniques to resolve intricate technical problems.
- Continuously improve engineering workflows and integrate them within commercial R&D and innovation projects.
- Ensure all laboratory work adheres strictly to GLP standards.
- Support commercial and innovation projects using CFD, MATLAB, Python, MVDA, Dynochem, and related software.
- Maintain safe working practices in compliance with local laws and regulations.
- Work closely with laboratory and facility teams to maintain operations and resolve equipment issues.
- Mentor and coach junior team members when suitable.
Minimum Qualifications
- Industry experience of 1–2 years in Process Development Engineering or Manufacturing Sciences & Technology with a Master's degree, or at least 3 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree.
- Strong foundation in chemical engineering principles related to upstream and/or downstream bioprocessing.
- Practical knowledge of Quality by Design, Design of Experiments, and process characterization.
- Experience developing scale-up and scale-down models and managing technology transfer.
- Proficiency with statistical software such as JMP, Minitab, R, Python, or MATLAB.
- Ability to excel in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with strong self-motivation and project management skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including technical presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with spectroscopy methods like Raman, NIR, FTIR, UV-Vis, and other PAT tools.
- Experience creating and implementing chemometric models.
- Hands-on experience scaling processes from lab to pilot or commercial scale with technology transfer exposure.
- Knowledge in mechanistic modeling software such as gPROMS, Aspen Plus, SIMCA, or MATLAB SimBiology.
- Understanding of GMP and regulatory frameworks including FDA, EMA, and ICH guidelines.
