With manufacturing facilities across multiple continents, GF is recognized globally as a trusted technology partner committed to security, sustainability, and longevity.

Position Overview

The Principal Engineer in Reliability will apply fundamental knowledge of reliability failure mechanisms, especially focusing on gate oxide, transistor devices, and back-end-of-line reliability within semiconductor processes. Collaboration with fabrication and technology development teams is essential to design reliability test structures, conduct testing and analysis, carry out risk assessments, and suggest design rules.

Key Duties

  • Lead technical support for qualification and reliability enhancements including defining qualification plans, setting test conditions, designing hardware/software for specialized testing, analyzing results, and recommending improvements for competitiveness.
  • Perform benchmarking on reliability testing methodologies, process qualification standards, and reliability design guidelines.
  • Design and evaluate reliability test structures to support qualification and establish layout rules and models related to reliability.
  • Define testing requirements for emerging and advanced technologies.
  • Offer technical advice to customers for integrating reliability into final product designs.
  • Enhance efficiency and precision of reliability testing by refining test designs and methodologies.
  • Contribute significantly in core teams focused on embedding reliability in new technology devices and processes.
  • Evaluate reliability risks associated with process updates, fab deviations, and customer field failures.
  • Develop models for failure mechanisms such as HCI, NBTI, TDDB, PID, EM, and BEOL TDDB to aid in IC designers' reliability risk assessment.
  • Take ownership for documenting, maintaining test processes and findings, tools, and train reliability personnel.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Engineering disciplines such as Electronics, Materials Science, or Physics.
  • At least 7 years’ experience in semiconductor reliability engineering.

Preferred Attributes

  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Able to perform well under challenging project deadlines.
  • Knowledge of tools and methodologies such as Minitab, JMP, FMEA, and 8D problem-solving is beneficial.
