We are expanding our Systems Engineering and Assurance team, which specializes in Systems Engineering, System Safety, Cybersecurity, Software Assurance, Human Factors/Ergonomics, and PRAM (Performance, Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability).

This Principal Engineer position aims to enhance our PRAM capability by integrating advanced PRAM engineering analysis techniques applied across UK mainline and metro projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies to guarantee the reliability, availability, and maintainability of products, systems, and applications for clients such as Network Rail, London Underground, Heathrow Airport, HS1, and HS2.
  • Define and analyze PRAM and performance requirements related to mainline and metro rail projects.
  • Capture, analyze, model, and predict PRAM requirements while managing interfaces related to PRAM.
  • Oversee system design and implementation to generate PRAM analyses that demonstrate compliance with PRAM requirements throughout a system’s lifecycle.
  • Produce PRAM arguments and formal cases aligned with legislation, standards (e.g., CENELEC 50126/50128/50129, Common Safety Method), and railway authority approval protocols.
  • Review PRAM and safety deliverables ensuring design adherence to requirements and project delivery standards.
  • Establish and implement a unified, auditable approach for identifying, applying, and verifying PRAM requirements across projects.
  • Mentor colleagues to build PRAM process proficiency within the Systems Engineering & Assurance team.

Candidate Profile and Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience with PRAM management and engineering processes including PRAM planning, analysis, requirements capture, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMECA), FRACAS, and preparation of PRAM demonstration reports.
  • Skilled in PRAM techniques such as reliability block diagrams, failure mode effects and criticality analysis, and fault/event tree analysis.
  • Previous exposure to PRAM management in UK railway projects including turnkey mainline or mass transit systems.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles, project lifecycle management, and relevant standards.
  • Ability to communicate and integrate PRAM concepts and results effectively with clients and internal teams.
  • Insight into the impacts of PRAM planning, cost modeling, and implementation strategies.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with standards CENELEC 50126/50128/50129 and IEC 61508.
