Job description

Role Overview

The PLC & SCADA Engineer will take charge of designing, developing, testing, commissioning, diagnosing, and maintaining PLC, HMI, and SCADA solutions tailored for water and wastewater treatment facilities. The engineer will ensure seamless integration of instrumentation, electrical components, variable frequency drives (VFDs), analyzers, and field devices to facilitate smooth plant operations while adhering to specified project criteria.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and architect PLC control systems suitable for water and wastewater treatment operations.
  • Create PLC software following project specs and functional design documents.
  • Develop and configure SCADA and HMI applications to support plant monitoring and control.
  • Draft control philosophies, input/output lists, network setups, and automation documentation.
  • Analyze and verify P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control panel design drawings.
  • Program PLCs for various treatment processes and set up communication protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and OPC.
  • Design graphical SCADA interfaces, configure alarms, event logs, historical trending, reporting, and define user access and security levels.
  • Integrate PLC systems with SCADA servers across the plant.
  • Conduct Factory and Site Acceptance Testing, verify I/O functions, troubleshoot automation and network issues, and assist with plant startup procedures.
  • Collaborate with instrumentation teams managing devices like flow meters, pressure and level transmitters, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and chlorine analyzers.
  • Coordinate closely with electrical and mechanical teams during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Prepare detailed documentation including Functional Design Specifications, operation manuals, commissioning and technical reports, as-built documents, and maintain backups of PLC/SCADA programs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Automation, Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • 2 to 8 years of industrial automation experience with at least 2 years focused on water or wastewater treatment projects.

Technical Expertise

  • Proficiency with PLC platforms such as Siemens S7-1200/1500 (TIA Portal), S7-300/400H, Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), Schneider Electric, Mitsubishi, and preferably Omron.
  • Experience using SCADA platforms including Siemens WinCC TIA Portal, FactoryTalk View, WinCC Unified, and WINCC SCADA.
  • Working knowledge of HMI devices like Siemens Comfort Panels and Weintek.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Siemens TIA Portal, WinCC, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office suites.

Preferred Background

  • Hands-on involvement with treatment plants such as wastewater (WWTP), sewage (STP), water treatment (WTP), reverse osmosis (RO), ultrafiltration/membrane bioreactor systems (UF/MBR), pumping stations, industrial water treatment, and desalination facilities.

Certifications

  • Preferred certifications include Siemens Certified Programmer, Rockwell Automation Certification, Schneider Electric Automation Certification, and ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP).

Additional Information

Candidate must preferably possess a valid UAE driving license.

Location: Sharjah, UAE.

Salary Range: AED 6000 to 9000 monthly.
