Role Overview
This full-time, permanent position involves working 37 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, on a rotating shift pattern to maintain the safety and cleanliness of Leicester's parks and open spaces. As a member of the Park Services team under Neighbourhood & Environmental Services, you will help enforce local byelaws and environmental regulations, support community safety, and provide exemplary public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol parks and open spaces across Leicester, on foot or by vehicle, to detect and act upon violations such as breaches of park byelaws, dog control PSPOs, and littering.
- Gather evidence, issue Fixed Penalty Notices, prepare reports, and participate in court proceedings as required.
- Conduct health and safety inspections, report defects, and take necessary steps to ensure public safety.
- Engage with the public to offer clear advice and direct them to other council services.
- Collaborate closely with police, ASB officers, and council services to manage anti-social behaviour and participate in awareness events.
- Operate body-worn cameras and personal safety devices while representing the council in uniform.
Candidate Requirements
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to remain calm, confident, and assertive in challenging situations.
- Understanding or willingness to learn environmental legislation and local byelaw details.
- Good IT skills for incident recording, report writing, and inspection documentation.
- Full manual UK driving licence and physical ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Flexibility to work a rotating shift pattern including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Location: Based at Abbey Park with citywide patrols.
Salary: £32,061 to £34,434 per annum, with a total package value including pension contributions and holiday entitlement of £46,953.
