Job description
Job Overview
This role involves assisting with the operation and upkeep of various mechanical equipment to facilitate smooth loading and unloading activities at a specified port or terminal.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts to transport materials among unloading, processing, loading, and storage sites.
- Arrange and secure stored items such as bales, sacks, boxes, and pallets.
- Manually load or unload materials onto pallets, platforms, skids, or lifting devices.
- Handle Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHC) to load and unload containers from ships, managing different cargo types including containers, bulk goods, and general freight.
- Conduct routine pre- and post-operation inspections of forklifts and cranes to confirm equipment is in proper working order.
- Coordinate with supervisors and managers to ensure effective unloading and loading procedures.
- Wrap cargo loads and maintain cleanliness of warehouse areas.
- Drive trucks for cargo transport between locations, inspecting vehicles for safety and mechanical issues, especially when hauling hazardous materials.
- Ensure correct cargo loading and undertake safety precautions during transportation.
- Train subordinate drivers working in shifts to manage operational workload.
- Maintain punctuality adhering to transportation and operational schedules.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.
- Comply with all safety rules and regulations and monitor load balancing and weight limits.
- Perform other assigned duties as directed by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum education of high school diploma; a diploma is advantageous.
- Possession of a valid UAE Heavy Machinery License.
- Technical certification related to port operations is a plus.
- A minimum of three years’ experience operating equipment in a terminal or related industrial setting.
- Experience with reach stackers or empty handlers is preferred.
- Good knowledge of container terminal workflows including vessel logistics, hazardous cargo handling, break-bulk, and special cargo procedures.
- Awareness and adherence to international safety standards and compliance.
Language Skills
- Proficient English communication skills; Arabic language skills are an additional benefit.
