Job Overview
The OpenText Engineer will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrading of the Windows Server and Apache-based systems that support enterprise-level applications. This role demands hands-on skills in managing Windows Server environments, Apache HTTP servers, SSL certificates, software upgrades, and providing Level 2 application support.
Key Duties
- Manage and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments including patching, configuration changes, service management, and troubleshooting.
- Handle DNS settings, service accounts, permissions, file system access, and ensure proper application connectivity.
- Monitor server and application resources, Windows services, and system availability for optimal performance.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot Apache web servers, including virtual hosts, redirects, proxy settings, and connectivity issues.
- Administer SSL/TLS certificates — installation, renewal, and management of certificate chains and HTTPS configurations.
- Analyze and resolve communication problems between application components, web servers, load balancers, and related infrastructure.
- Investigate Windows Event Viewer logs, Apache access and error logs, and other application logs to identify system or application issues.
- Diagnose and resolve availability, startup, performance, and connectivity problems across Windows Servers, Apache servers, and application services.
- Implement recovery procedures such as service restarts and validate system stability post-incident.
- Conduct root cause analysis of recurring application and infrastructure failures.
- Support installation, upgrades, patches, backups, pre- and post-maintenance validation, and rollback of application software.
- Provide technical Level 2 support and coordinate with internal teams and external vendors for issue resolution and escalation when required.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including configurations, upgrade instructions, implementation plans, rollbacks, and troubleshooting guides.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Substantial experience managing Microsoft Windows Server environments and services.
- Expertise in Apache HTTP Server installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in managing SSL/TLS certificates and HTTPS configuration.
- Strong skills in troubleshooting enterprise applications running on Windows and Apache platforms.
- Ability to analyze logs from Windows, Apache, and applications for problem identification.
- Experience providing Level 2 application and server support.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, ports, HTTP, and HTTPS.
- Excellent problem-solving, root cause analysis, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting enterprise web applications or document management systems.
- Familiarity with Java-based applications and Apache Tomcat or equivalent application servers.
- Knowledge of working in high availability or load-balanced application environments.
- Experience with Windows automation and scripting, especially PowerShell.
