About the Role
Join a global development community at IBM's Waterford office, focusing on advancing OpenShift Virtualization for IBM Z systems. This role involves working on device drivers, storage, networking, and container orchestration, complemented by testing and CI/CD devops practices. Candidates passionate about Linux-based operating systems, open source, and in-depth programming will find this team highly engaging.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate in designing and specifying new software features.
- Implement and develop high-quality code following design specifications.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve bugs and performance issues.
- Perform performance analysis to optimize software efficiency.
- Contribute code to upstream open source communities and maintain client satisfaction by solving their problems.
- Work onsite in Waterford, Ireland, for three days each week.
Education and Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Bachelor's degree.
Technical and Professional Skills
- Strong enthusiasm for container-related software development on Linux platforms using Go and Bash scripting.
- Interest in participating actively in open source communities, particularly kubevirt and Kubernetes.
- Good understanding of operating system interfaces including network cards and storage systems.
- Familiarity with performance metrics collection and analysis.
- Experience with source code management tools such as Git, scripting, programming in Bash and Go, and test automation utilizing Jenkins.
Preferred Experience
- Prior contributions to open source projects.
- Expertise in Linux container technologies such as Kubernetes or KubeVirt.
- Knowledge of Linux operating on IBM Z architecture.
- Strong skills in Go programming and automation testing using Jenkins.
- Comprehensive understanding of OS interfaces and performance monitoring.
