Job description
Role Overview
The On-site Coach position is a full-time role located in Abu Dhabi, focused on supporting iGEM participants throughout program activities and events. The person in this role will guide teams in project planning and implementation, assist in applying synthetic biology principles responsibly, and provide ongoing mentorship on teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate team schedules and facilitate workshops or training sessions to aid in project milestones achievement.
- Ensure teams have access to adequate resources required for high-quality outcomes.
- Serve as a liaison between local partners and iGEM staff to maintain alignment on program goals.
- Monitor team progress and foster a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment on-site.
Qualifications
- Proven coaching and mentoring capabilities, especially with student or early-career groups working on scientific or technical projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of synthetic biology or related fields such as molecular biology and biotechnology, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including effective listening, delivering constructive feedback, and conflict management.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage schedules, logistics, and multiple team priorities within a dynamic on-site environment.
- Commitment to fostering diversity and respectful collaboration within multicultural and international teams.
- Flexible approach and problem-solving abilities to adapt to changing project needs and event circumstances.
- Prior experience in academic coaching, competitions, or educational programs is an advantage.
- Possession of a bachelor's degree or higher in fields such as life sciences, engineering, education, or relevant practical experience.
- Proficiency in English is required; additional languages are advantageous.
- Availability to be on-site in Abu Dhabi for the entire program duration, including occasional extended working hours.
