Role Purpose
The Offshore Environmental Coordinator will operate within Saipem's ABSER Business Line, focusing on offshore construction projects in Saudi Arabia. This position ensures adherence to environmental compliance, environmental impact commitments, pollution control, monitoring, and reporting related to offshore vessels, subcontractors, and marine construction work.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing, reviewing, and executing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Environmental & Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) for offshore projects.
- Guarantee that offshore construction and marine operations align with environmental permits, regulatory approvals, and EIA obligations.
- Evaluate environmental aspects and impacts of offshore activities like vessel operations, pipelay, subsea works, dredging, and marine logistics.
- Conduct studies and analyses assessing project effects under routine and emergency situations to develop suitable mitigation strategies.
- Manage marine environmental monitoring initiatives including seawater quality, sediment, waste, emissions, discharges, and pollution control.
- Identify environmental risks from offshore construction activities and apply measures to protect marine ecosystems and sensitive areas.
- Safeguard protected marine environments throughout project execution.
- Create and apply Oil Spill Prevention and Response Plans; organize environmental emergency drills and exercises.
- Carry out environmental inspections, audits, and vessel evaluations ensuring adherence to project Environmental Management Systems.
- Oversee environmental performance and compliance of contractors and subcontractors.
- Engage in environmental incident investigations and ensure timely corrective and preventative actions.
- Ensure conformity with MARPOL Convention and other marine environmental laws during offshore, vessel, and pollution control operations.
- Compile environmental performance reports including KPIs, statistical analysis, and lessons learned for management and client feedback.
- Support greenhouse gas emission management, energy efficiency efforts, and sustainability initiatives at offshore sites.
Candidate Profile
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental disciplines such as Environmental Engineering, Science, or Geology.
Experience: At least 5 years in environmental management, preferably related to offshore oil and gas construction or vessel operations. Knowledge of Saudi Aramco standards is advantageous.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Arabic is required.
Technical Expertise: Hands-on with Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001), EIA/ESIA standards, regulatory permits, marine environmental monitoring, waste and emission management, oil spill response, audits, environmental incident investigations, GHG and sustainability reporting, and compliance with MARPOL and marine environmental regulations.
Additional Information
The role includes frequent offshore travel and visits to vessels and project sites within Saudi Arabia and associated offshore locations.
