Job description

Role overview

This position is a hands-on network engineering role within an outsourced setup, supporting a global client in Aberdeen. The work centers on installing, refreshing, configuring, and delivering network equipment across several international sites.

Key responsibilities

  • Assemble, set up, and hand over network solutions according to a predefined technical design.
  • Work with LAN, WAN, and firewall technologies, including Fortigate, Palo Alto, and Cisco hardware, while understanding how these components interact with wider IT systems.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional project team to deliver technical outcomes and implementation support.
  • Help shape technical design for new solutions and partner with IT Architecture teams to define and apply technology standards.
  • Produce clear and standardized technical documentation.
  • Carry out practical testing of new equipment and solution components.
  • Show awareness of adjacent technologies and their dependencies.
  • Act as a third-line escalation contact for problem management alongside support teams when business-as-usual services face incidents or outages, in line with service criticality expectations.
  • Be prepared for global travel for approximately 60 days each year.

Qualifications and experience

  • IT degree-level education or an equivalent background in experience.
  • CCNA and CCNP certification, or active progress toward them.
  • Relevant experience in either network support or network project delivery.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and current technology trends.
  • Understanding of IT operational risk management, project delivery, and service frameworks such as ITIL and ISO.

  • Able to work with limited supervision and take ownership of moving work and projects forward.
  • Willing and able to travel, sometimes at short notice.
