Job description

About the Company

CVNOVA Industrial Cleaning Technologies Pvt. Ltd., based in Chennai, India, is a European-headquartered industrial machinery firm with over 25 years of international experience. We specialize in designing, engineering, manufacturing, and supplying specialized industrial machines such as Fluidized Bed Cleaning Installations and thermal cleaning equipment used to remove paints, coatings, polymers, and residues from various industrial components and tooling. Serving sectors including Automotive, Paint & Coatings, Chemical, Plastics, Engineering, and General Manufacturing, our Chennai facility carries out design, fabrication, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning of customized machines for both domestic and global customers. We integrate mechanical design, 3D modeling, fabrication, machining, automation, electrical controls, and machine assembly to develop tailored industrial equipment aimed at enhancing manufacturing efficiency and supporting environmentally sustainable processes.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical 3D Design Engineer skilled in developing detailed mechanical designs and documentation for industrial machinery. The role demands hands-on experience creating 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing, and fabrication drawings, BOMs, and design documentation ensuring designs are production-ready. A comprehensive understanding of fabrication methods, welding, machining, material handling, and industrial equipment applications is essential to translate concepts into operational mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 3D models and mechanical assemblies utilizing SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.
  • Generate precise 2D manufacturing and fabrication drawings derived from 3D models.
  • Design mechanical elements including machine structures, frames, sheet metal parts, welded assemblies, machined components, baskets, trolleys, fixtures, and related material-handling systems.
  • Create BOMs, part lists, fabrication, and assembly drawings applying correct dimensions, tolerances, fits, and GD&T as necessary.
  • Ensure drawings are suitable and practical for manufacturing, assembly, and fabrication processes.
  • Select appropriate materials aligned with application requirements in machine design.
  • Collaborate closely with teams across production, fabrication, machining, procurement, electrical, and project management.
  • Facilitate on-floor discussions to clarify drawings and resolve manufacturing design queries.
  • Revise designs responding to engineering inputs, production feedback, and customer needs.
  • Maintain rigorous document control including numbering, revision management, and design records.
  • Assist project engineers during machine development, fabrication, and installation phases.
  • Evaluate completed assemblies to identify potential improvements for design efficiency, cost reduction, and manufacturing ease.
  • Deliver designs that are reliable, safe, economical, and fit for practical deployment.

Technical Requirements

  • High proficiency in SolidWorks; familiarity with AutoCAD is compulsory.
  • Experience with other CAD platforms like Creo, CATIA, or Inventor is advantageous.
  • Sound knowledge of mechanical design fundamentals, fabrication, welding, sheet metal design, and machining operations.
  • Experience handling structural steel fabrication, bolted and welded assemblies, and standard mechanical components such as bearings, shafts, and fasteners.
  • Understanding of fits, tolerances, clearances, and engineering drawing interpretation.
  • Knowledge of GD&T is preferred.
  • Awareness of manufacturing feasibility and design-for-manufacturing principles.

Preferred Industry Experience

  • Industrial machinery design
  • Special Purpose Machines (SPM)
  • Automation equipment
  • Material handling systems
  • Paint and coating machinery
  • Industrial cleaning systems
  • Conveyor and trolley solutions
  • Heavy fabrication and machine structural components
  • Equipment for production and manufacturing processes

Qualifications & Experience

Diploma or any degree with 2 to 5 years of experience in mechanical design and detailing. Candidates showcasing solid SolidWorks proficiency and relevant current or past project work might be considered for appropriate positions.

Desired Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good aptitude for mechanical design
  • Pragmatic engineering problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter able to meet deadlines independently
  • Effective communication and team coordination abilities
  • Collaborative mindset to work closely with production and fabrication teams
  • Capability to interpret customer requirements into precise engineering drawings
  • Focus on accuracy, high quality, and timely task completion
