Overview
Amazon Web Services operates leading NoSQL offerings like DynamoDB and ElastiCache, powering major global companies. We build some of the largest distributed systems and are expanding teams to develop new high-scale caching services.
This leadership role requires passion for distributed caching systems, deep technical expertise, and strong people management skills. As the software development manager, you will lead the team responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying AWS’s next-generation caching database services.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, develop, and lead a software engineering team focused on database services.
- Drive design and implementation of large-scale, distributed services.
- Lead complex, cross-team technical initiatives impacting the entire company.
- Collaborate closely with product management to align technical choices with business objectives.
- Participate actively in hiring and mentoring engineers and managers across teams.
- Engage with senior leadership in business planning and setting long-term technical strategies.
- Make high-impact decisions combining creativity and sound judgment.
- Stay current with industry trends and contribute to intellectual property through patents or publications.

Minimum Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of engineering lifecycle practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build and testing processes, and live site operations.
- Proven experience managing software engineering teams.
- Hands-on engineering expertise, with experience leading multi-tier web service development.
- Experience working with product and program management partners to deliver successful projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements and describe product features and strategy.
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and developing software engineers to enhance team effectiveness.
