Role Overview

The Maintenance Operative position, based primarily at Archways in Sheffield but requiring flexibility to work at various Flow Student locations, offers a permanent contract with 37.5 working hours per week typically scheduled over five days between 9am and 6pm. The role includes a salary of £27,530 plus bonuses.

In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining safe, secure, and welcoming environments that support student wellbeing. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, your duties will encompass addressing maintenance tasks, responding to health and safety demands, and promoting a high-quality living experience. Daily responsibilities vary from repairing doors and handling urgent calls to regular student interaction, all requiring attention to detail and dedication to company values fostering a welcoming community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute a variety of general maintenance duties, including joinery, plastering, plumbing, electrical repairs, and reactive maintenance to uphold building safety and condition.
  • Ensure ongoing health and safety compliance by conducting monitoring tasks, responding swiftly to safety-related incidents, and following all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Provide outstanding customer service by engaging with students and colleagues, managing maintenance requests and feedback efficiently, and maintaining a positive, approachable demeanor.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and complete planned inspections, reporting any necessary repairs to specialized engineers.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possess a valid UK driving license essential for travel between multiple sites.
  • Demonstrate fundamental technical skills in maintenance, including joinery, plastering, basic plumbing, and performing like-for-like electrical replacements while prioritizing safety and proper documentation.
  • Understand and apply health and safety legislation to create and maintain safe work environments compliant with legal standards.
  • Have experience in general maintenance and roles requiring direct customer interaction, evidencing the ability to deliver efficient service with strong communication skills.
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving abilities and professionalism in dealing with maintenance challenges and stakeholder communications.
  • Experience in Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA), student housing, property management, or hospitality is preferred but not mandatory.
