Within its Steel Division, Pact Packaging produces steel drums tailored for New Zealand’s dairy and food ingredient markets, emphasizing top-tier manufacturing standards, customer focus, and pragmatic commercial approaches.
Currently, the company seeks a Maintenance Engineer for its Avondale, Auckland facility. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this pivotal position ensures manufacturing equipment, infrastructure, and site services operate reliably, safely, and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance using the MEX system to optimize machine uptime and identify essential spare parts.
- Quickly diagnose and fix equipment breakdowns, implementing root cause analyses to avoid repeated failures.
- Oversee critical site utilities including cooling systems and compressed air and gas supplies to maintain seamless operations.
- Manage building and electrical infrastructure maintenance, maintaining communication with contractors and landlords when necessary.
- Contribute to automation projects by developing, commissioning, and upgrading equipment, assisting with project planning and cost estimation.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health, safety, and environmental standards, fostering a safety-focused culture and conducting staff inductions and training.
- Maintain strict housekeeping and food safety standards aligned with HACCP and GMP guidelines.
- Support engineering projects and fabrication tasks as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum three years’ experience in maintenance within manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial sectors.
- Possession of a Maintenance Engineering qualification with strong diagnostic emphasis or an equivalent trade qualification.
- Proven expertise in technical maintenance, troubleshooting, and machining tasks.
- Solid understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and CMMS software (MEX preferred).
- Excellent abilities in fault detection, diagnostics, teamwork, and professional communication.
- Self-driven, adaptable, approachable, and professional demeanor.
- Familiarity with Office 365 and ability to work independently without supervision.
- Current EWRB EAS-EST accreditation is preferred or willingness to obtain it.
Employment Details and Benefits
- Location: Avondale, Auckland site.
- Permanent full-time role, working Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, totaling 40 hours weekly.
- Hourly wage ranges from $45.00 to $53.00 based on experience, with flexibility to participate in on-call and overtime duties.
