About the Role

Join our Property & Buildings team as an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the delivery of complex building services projects. This role involves technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams and shaping sustainable built environments throughout New Zealand. While Auckland is preferred, candidates from other locations with our office are welcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design, technical delivery, and validation of mechanical building services for diverse complex projects.
  • Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality client outcomes.
  • Establish and nurture strong client relationships, uncovering opportunities for ongoing and new business.
  • Provide leadership and guidance throughout all project stages, from concept to commissioning.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Fire, Structural, Civil, and specialty engineering disciplines.
  • Assist in project planning, resource allocation, risk and quality management, and commercial oversight.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Participate in business development, proposals, and strategic client engagement activities.
  • Ensure adherence to New Zealand building standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Advocate for sustainable and innovative engineering solutions that provide long-term value.
  • Engage in construction monitoring, stakeholder interactions, and technical evaluations as needed.

Candidate Profile

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or eligibility to obtain it in New Zealand.
  • At least 10 years of experience in mechanical building services engineering within consulting environments.
  • Proven leadership in design and delivery of complex building services projects.
  • Strong expertise in HVAC systems, mechanical services, and integrated building design.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Thorough knowledge of New Zealand building codes, regulations, and compliance.
  • Excellent client relationship management and business development capabilities.
  • Outstanding communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Passion for mentoring and developing teams to high performance.
  • Collaborative approach paired with commercial insight and client-focused delivery.
