Job Overview
The Junior Accountant role is responsible for the accurate and timely entry of daily financial transactions involving revenue, payables, and petty cash into Xero accounting software. This position supports the accounting team by ensuring all postings are properly categorized and supported by documentation, enabling the business to maintain precise financial records and meet weekly reporting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately post all invoice and contract revenue entries in Xero, ensuring each entry is accompanied by a relevant supporting document.
- Enter supplier invoices and accruals in Xero with full supporting attachments to maintain completeness.
- Assign all transactions to the correct account, department, and cost center, striving for zero unassigned items.
- Record payment transactions for both revenue and payables within Xero.
- Reconcile weekly petty cash submissions against receipts and process reimbursement claims promptly.
- Assist accountants with weekly general ledger reconciliations including bank, cash, control accounts, accounts receivable, and intercompany balances.
- Investigate and escalate any outstanding discrepancies or anomalous items in reconciliation reports.
- Prepare weekly summaries of reconciliations highlighting trends and discrepancies.
- Maintain data integrity and proper filing of financial records, both digital and physical, ensuring audit readiness.
- Support month-end and year-end closing procedures as well as ad hoc finance tasks as needed.
Tools and Systems Used
This role utilizes accounting software and tools including Xero, Zoho, Precoro, and Google Sheets.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a closely related field; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Between 1 to 2 years of practical accounting experience, including internships or attachments.
- Basic knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping concepts.
- Familiarity and comfort with spreadsheet tools such as Excel or Google Sheets.
