Role Overview

The Materials Inspector will join major roads, infrastructure, and bridge projects in Dubai, assuring that all activities comply strictly with project specifications. This role involves both monitoring and supervising construction activities on-site to maintain quality, safety, and adherence to contract standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret applicable codes, project contract documents, and standards to oversee construction compliance.
  • Perform general inspections on construction and subcontractor work to ensure safe and quality operations.
  • Verify equipment settings, alignment, testing procedures, and commissioning requirements.
  • Maintain thorough familiarity with project drawings, specifications, and health and safety protocols.
  • Ensure contractor adherence to contract specifications and standards.
  • Keep detailed records of contractor personnel and equipment resources daily.
  • Carry out site supervision and inspections as directed by Resident Engineer (RE) or Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE).
  • Engage daily with the contractor to monitor resource management, safety compliance, and equipment usage.
  • Produce daily reports covering work orders, material deliveries, and inspection activities for RE or ARE.
  • Follow up on and enforce any site instructions issued by RE or ARE.
  • Implement all required quality control and assurance procedures onsite.
  • Prepare site measurements and perform survey verifications for pipe alignments and levels as necessary.
  • Coordinate with client project managers during their inspections alongside RE or ARE.
  • Assist in preparing correspondence aligned with contract requirements and site needs.
  • Collaborate with RE or ARE to promptly resolve any onsite issues.
  • Oversee project milestones including startup, commissioning, and handover phases, maintaining records accordingly.
  • Record results from material tests and executed works for documentation.
  • Conduct audit inspections ensuring conformity with contract and submitted contractor plans.
  • Inspect waterproofing, expansion joints, and protective coatings applied to structural components.
  • Monitor formwork removal, surface finishing, and structural repairs to meet quality standards.
  • Ensure proper coordination and conflict-free execution at structural interfaces including utilities and roads.
  • Participate in inspecting precast and cast-in-situ structural elements ensuring proper handling, lifting, and installation.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience focused on laboratory materials testing combined with field inspection of samples and materials.
  • Experience working on roads and bridges projects is required, with preference for candidates having Middle East project exposure.
