Role Overview
Based in Port Melbourne, Victoria, the full-time Heritage Advisor position entails delivering specialist guidance on heritage management. Key activities encompass evaluating archaeological and cultural heritage sites, producing precise and comprehensive reports, and advising on development proposals impacting heritage areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess development plans for potential impacts on heritage assets and sites.
- Support and coordinate on-site archaeological and cultural heritage field investigations.
- Engage collaboratively with clients, regulatory authorities, and community stakeholders to ensure adherence to legislation and heritage management best practices.
- Contribute actively to the formulation and implementation of heritage conservation strategies.
- Maintain thorough records for all projects involving heritage considerations.
- Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams to incorporate heritage aspects into overall project planning and execution.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience in heritage advisory roles, archaeology, or cultural heritage management including conducting site assessments and preparing detailed reports.
- In-depth understanding of heritage laws, planning policies, and industry standards relevant to Victoria and Australia.
- Advanced research and analytical skills with the ability to simplify complex material into actionable recommendations.
- Strong communication skills facilitating engagement with clients, governmental bodies, Traditional Owners, and community organizations.
- Competent in managing projects, with excellent organizational skills, time management, and meticulous attention to detail handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to safely participate in fieldwork such as archaeological surveys and site inspections.
- Possession of a tertiary qualification in archaeology, heritage conservation, history, anthropology, or associated disciplines.
- Experience using GIS or spatial data software complemented by proficiency in standard office applications highly advantageous.
- Dedication to ethical practices, fostering inclusive teamwork, and respecting cultural heritage sensitivities.
