We strive to create extraordinary experiences for all customers by pushing the limits of the gaming industry. Whether you are an avid gamer or new to gaming, GameStop offers something for everyone.

As an Assistant Store Manager, you will work under minimal supervision, supporting the Store Manager with all operational facets of the retail environment. Leveraging GameStop's buy, sell, trade, and reservation business framework known as the Circle of Life, you'll cultivate a sales-driven culture by tailoring complete, personalized solutions for guests and delivering standout service fueled by passion for gaming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional guest service by courteously greeting guests, answering questions promptly, assisting with gaming needs, promoting special offers, recommending relevant products, and thanking guests for choosing GameStop.
  • Maintain store presentation and operational elements to support sales growth, repeat business, and a welcoming shopping atmosphere.
  • Accurately process transactions using the Point-of-Sale system, handling purchases, returns, receipts, and bagging merchandise while emphasizing customer satisfaction.
  • Respond professionally to guest inquiries in person and by phone, escalating concerns to management as appropriate.
  • Promote GameStop programs such as new title reservations, trade-ins, and the Pro Rewards loyalty program.
  • Assist in training and setting service expectations for store associates, ensuring compliance with company policies and operational standards.
  • Monitor associate performance, provide timely feedback and coaching, address issues, and recognize achievements using company HR tools.
  • Collaborate on scheduling to optimize guest service and ensure adherence to labor regulations.
  • Approve payroll, manage time-off requests, and verify accurate compensation for associates.
  • Ensure all store areas remain clean, organized, and merchandised following company standards, including timely fulfillment and shipment of Omni-Channel orders.
  • Safeguard company assets through inventory control, loss prevention, and security measures, including package inspections and bank deposits.
  • Support achievement of sales, profit, and shrinkage goals while completing necessary administrative tasks.
  • Conduct inventory counts, restock merchandise, and maintain proper product display organization.
  • Reconcile daily sales transactions accurately, complete required documentation, and manage cash handling with diligence.
  • Verify shipment contents for accuracy, manage defective product processing, and maintain store safety protocols.
  • Oversee store record-keeping, ensure training documentation is current, and supervise Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager's absence.
  • Adhere strictly to company policies, ethical standards, and established opening and closing procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Eligible to work legally in the United States with acceptable proof of identity; minimum age 18 years.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree with concentration in business, marketing, merchandising, or related fields preferred.
  • Minimum six months of retail management experience preferred, with at least two years in retail sales, guest service, or management roles.
  • Knowledge of video games is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an engaging, approachable demeanor.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, both independently and collaboratively.
  • Basic proficiency with Point-of-Sale systems and foundational math skills including currency handling and alphabetizing.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, with a minimum commitment of three days per week.
  • Capable of standing and moving throughout the store for up to 12 hours daily and performing physical tasks involving lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Sound judgment, reliability, and professional problem-solving abilities.
