About the Role
Join Hot Topic as a dedicated Full-Time Assistant Manager in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where passion for music, pop culture, and delivering an exceptional customer and employee experience drives us. In this position, you will be a key partner to the Store Manager, contributing to the achievement of store goals including sales targets, recruitment, and team development. You will lead with the enthusiasm and adaptability of iconic heroes, tackling challenges to advance sales and foster lasting customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist your Store Manager in meeting and exceeding sales plans and comparable store sales objectives, recognizing the importance of financial targets.
- Recruit, nurture, and retain a motivated, collaborative, and passionate team to operate the store effectively alongside you.
- Serve as the store’s biggest advocate by generating excitement and engaging customers through new product promotions, use of social media, and services like Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and curbside pickup.
- Lead operational excellence by balancing delegation, autonomy, and customer-first sales practices to ensure smooth store functioning.
- Oversee inventory control measures including shrinkage prevention, manage payroll effectively, and organize associate schedules.
- Communicate collaboratively with retail leadership and headquarters about customer trends and feedback to refine store strategies.
- Analyze sales reports and data to inform effective strategies that drive sales performance.
- Merchandise the store attractively following planogram guidelines and ensure timely promotion launches to maximize visual appeal and sales.
- Partner with the Store Manager to develop a loyal, high-performing team focused on outstanding customer service.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess at least 1-2 years of experience managing a retail store, ideally with a passion for music and pop culture.
- Proven leadership ability to guide teams towards success, with strong skills in communication, recruiting, operations management (payroll, reporting, scheduling, merchandising), and employee development.
- Exhibit excellent communication, time management, professionalism, operational skills, and a strong drive for team growth.
- Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent; a higher degree is advantageous.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic retail environment.
- Capable of performing standard retail duties with or without reasonable accommodation, including navigating store areas, merchandising using approved equipment, and handling merchandise boxes up to 50 pounds.
