About the Role
Join a leading global engineering and professional services firm expanding its flood forecasting capabilities within the Sustainable Water Management team in the UK. This role involves contributing to and leading real-time flood modelling projects that support national resilience and enhance flood warning systems for public safety and critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute flood forecasting modelling and hydrology analysis using tools like Flood Modeller, Probability Distributed Model (PDM), and hydrodynamic routing techniques.
- Define and verify model boundaries, perform rating curve evaluations, and conduct model performance assessments.
- Ensure quality assurance through independent technical reviews of forecasting outputs.
- Create clear, high-quality deliverables for clients and public communication, including complex data visualizations.
- Assist in advancing the flood forecasting service offerings within the organisation.
- Mentor and support development of junior modellers.
- Engage in bid proposal preparation and devise innovative solutions for client projects.
- Oversee project delivery including commercial, financial, and stakeholder management aspects.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the UK and international offices.
- Promote a safety-first culture adhering to company policies and procedures.
About the Team
The national fluvial and pluvial modelling group undertakes extensive flood modelling projects supporting flood warnings, flood risk management studies, and infrastructure initiatives across sectors such as energy, transport, government, and water. The selected candidate will join the expanding UK real-time modelling capacity and contribute to the international flood and weather forecasting practice network. Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated expertise in UK flood forecasting approaches, including use of Flood Modeller, rating curve review, PDM, and model performance testing.
- Proven experience developing and assessing real-time flood models, preferably for statutory organisations such as Environment Agency, SEPA, NRW, or DfI.
- Commercial acumen with experience supporting or leading proposal submissions.
- Comfortable engaging with clients and key stakeholders at multiple levels.
- Strong communication skills, analytical ability, and technical review capabilities.
- Chartered status or a commitment to achieve it.
- Experience with non-real-time flood modelling considered advantageous.
