Position Overview
The Flagger II is tasked with guiding and controlling traffic flow around construction zones, road maintenance sites, and related work areas. Responsibilities include setting up and dismantling traffic control signs, cones, and barricades to ensure the safety of workers and the public. The role requires directing motorists using hand signals, signs, and other means to safely navigate through or around the worksite. This position demands keen attention to detail, stamina for standing extended hours outdoors in various weather, and adherence to all safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and remove traffic control devices such as signs and cones around work zones to redirect traffic.
- Manage vehicular movement efficiently using stop/slow paddle signs.
- Communicate effectively with team members through two-way radios.
- Remain standing and walking for up to 10 hours daily and use arms and hands to reach as necessary.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, and move equipment exceeding 50 pounds in weight.
- Operate company vehicles to transport equipment and perform vehicle inspections and maintenance tasks.
- Work safely in environments exposed to outdoor weather conditions, machinery, traffic, fumes, and airborne particles with typically moderate to loud noise levels.
- Follow all company policies and procedures diligently.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Valid driver’s license is mandatory.
- Must successfully clear a background check including motor vehicle records verification.
- Pass drug screening and comply with federal Department of Transportation requirements.
- Use appropriate safety gear including safety-toe work boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and safety vest consistently.
- Competent in operating two-way radios for communication.
- Ability to work effectively in diverse weather conditions and traffic scenarios.
- Deliver excellent communication with contractors and internal teams while providing high-quality customer service.
- Collaborate effectively within team environments.
- Demonstrate reliability through excellent attendance and dependable transportation.
- Completion of the ATSSA Flagger training course and company led Defensive Driving training is required.
- Willing to travel statewide with occasional overnight stays and to work evenings and weekends as project demands.
- Availability for rotating on-call duty schedules.
