Overview
Mittera Creative + Tech is seeking entry-level Finishing Assistants to join our expanding team in Sunrise, Florida. This role focuses on supporting the Finishing Department by handling tasks such as loading correct signatures into machinery, organizing completed books into pallets or boxes, and sorting mail in compliance with postal standards. The position offers opportunities to progress into skilled roles.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Machine Operator to accurately interpret job tickets.
- Assist in various finishing operations including cutting, folding, collating, stitching, and trimming printed materials.
- Retrieve and package finished printed pieces from binding, folding, and cutting machines.
- Load materials into stitcher or trimmer pockets and feeders for folding machines.
- Perform ancillary tasks like skid packing, labeling, shrink-wrapping pallets, and moving stock materials.
- Operate equipment such as power pallet jacks and hand lift trucks.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the work environment.
- Execute manual binding and finishing tasks including hand collating.
- Prepare empty skids for finishing runs.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Preferably 1 to 3 years of prior experience in manufacturing or office settings.
- Proficient in understanding written and oral work instructions and business communications.
- Strong communication abilities across all organizational levels.
- Basic mathematical skills for practical problem-solving.
- Capability to interpret instructions in varied formats including written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedules.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Physical Demands
- Use of proper body mechanics involving pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling, and bending is required.
- Ability to lift and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
- Requires fine motor skills and coordination of hands and arms.
- Good near-vision acuity needed.
- Comfortable working around and operating departmental machinery.
- Must be able to navigate throughout the facility's departments.
- Ability to maintain professionalism in stressful situations.
Work Environment
Employees may be intermittently exposed to airborne particles, fumes, and hazardous materials. The role involves regular proximity to moving mechanical equipment.
