Job description
Job Overview
The role involves evaluating candidate responses to GCE Physics (2016 Specification) exams by applying a prescribed marking scheme while following official examination protocols. Working as an examiner offers valuable insight into assessment processes, potentially enhancing teaching quality. Although most marking is now conducted digitally using ePEN software from home, some subjects may still require traditional paper-based script marking.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately and consistently award marks to uphold overall assessment standards.
- Submit marked samples to your Team Leader within set deadlines.
- Comply with specified marking milestone schedules.
- Complete all related administrative tasks as required.
Experience and Qualifications
- Possess a minimum of one academic year's teaching experience at A Level standard, gained within the last eight years, post-qualification.
- Hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Physics or a closely related discipline. If your degree is in another subject, demonstrate at least three years’ experience teaching A Level Physics.
- Be a qualified teacher.
- Alternatively, retired teachers with substantial experience and qualifications may also apply.
Desirable Experience
- Prior experience teaching or assessing practical components of Physics (unit 9PH0_03) would be advantageous.
Required Competencies
- Ability to perform well under pressure.
- Strong time management skills to meet deadlines.
- In-depth knowledge of Physics suitable for correct application of the mark scheme.
Additional Details
- The marking period extends from May to July annually.
- Mandatory examiner training sessions are scheduled between May and June.
