Role Overview

The Evening Assistant Editor will play a critical role within Mothership's editorial team by enhancing the quality, accuracy, and promptness of news and current affairs coverage. This role entails expanding editorial scope and depth while leading and mentoring a group of content producers. Working hours are scheduled from 4 PM to 11 PM, Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the production of news content across the website and social media channels, ensuring effective editing, story assignment, and curation.
  • Identify significant news developments locally and internationally affecting Singapore.
  • Contribute actively to gathering news, reporting, and developing compelling stories.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor the evening team of content producers.
  • Independently handle project timelines and allocate resources efficiently.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of four years' operational experience within a newsroom or comparable industry.
  • Proven skills in managing teams and projects.
  • Keen reader with sharp, critical thinking abilities.
  • Creativity, curiosity, and enthusiasm for current affairs, people, and politics.
  • Excellent writing and editing proficiency.
  • Up-to-date with digital and social media trends.
  • Ability to help audiences understand complex issues in a fragmented world.
  • Passionate about mentoring and developing team members.
  • Mental resilience, tenacity, and agility to thrive in a fast-paced, highly competitive media environment.
