Estimating Manager

About the Role

SAWW Developments is looking for a seasoned Director of Estimating & Preconstruction to lead the estimating department and drive business expansion across British Columbia. This senior leadership position is ideal for a skilled estimating expert with significant experience in prominent mid-sized general contractors throughout BC. The candidate will have a history of producing competitive and accurate estimates, winning profitable projects, and utilizing a strong network to uncover new business possibilities.

The role centers exclusively on achieving excellence in estimating, sourcing new opportunities, and expanding project backlog, without involvement in project management.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all estimating and preconstruction duties for commercial, institutional, healthcare, municipal, and interior building projects.
• Oversee and prepare precise cost estimates, quantity take-offs, pricing models, bidding strategies, risk evaluations, value engineering, and tender documentation.
• Identify and pursue new projects across public and private sectors in British Columbia.
• Build and maintain relationships with owners, developers, architects, consultants, municipal bodies, health authorities, school districts, property managers, and landlords.
• Discover project opportunities through public bids, negotiated contracts, and early involvement in projects.
• Broaden the company's market presence by adding new clients, procurement platforms, bidding portals, and strategic initiatives.
• Lead subcontractor selection processes including scope evaluations, bid assessment, and contract negotiations.
• Guide and mentor the estimating team while refining procedures and adopting best practices.
• Monitor and analyze bid results, success rates, market trends, and backlog development.

Qualifications

• At least 15 years of estimating experience working for established general contracting firms.
• Experience with commercial, institutional, healthcare, municipal, and interior construction projects.
• Proficient in handling projects via General Contracting, Construction Management, Design-Build, P3, and IPD methods.
• Well-connected network of clients, consultants, architects, developers, and subcontractors in British Columbia.
• Proven ability to source new projects and contribute to company growth.
• Strong leadership skills paired with negotiation, analytical, and communication capabilities.
