Role Overview

The Environmental Advisor is a full-time, on-site role located at the Waiouru Military Area. This position focuses on supporting environmental management related to Defence facilities and operations. Key duties involve evaluating environmental risks and impacts, advising on risk mitigation, and ensuring adherence to environmental laws, regulations, standards, and internal guidelines. This role requires composing accurate reports, assisting with environmental impact assessments, and providing expert counsel on environmental best practices to operational teams and stakeholders.

Key Duties

  • Engage regularly with Defence and PAE NZ personnel to coordinate environmental efforts.
  • Monitor and assess environmental performance across sites and operations.
  • Manage audits and inspections related to environmental compliance.
  • Support the rollout of environmental improvement plans and initiatives.
  • Contribute to fostering environmental awareness and sustainable practices within the broader facilities management framework.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental management, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in Environmental Science, Environmental Impact Assessment, and Environmental Compliance.
  • Experience in report writing with clarity and precision.
  • Background working in complex operational settings, ideally in defence, infrastructure, or facilities management sectors.
  • Comprehensive understanding of New Zealand environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, and best practice standards.
  • Strong analytical capability, effective communication, and proven skills in stakeholder engagement with the ability to deliver straightforward, actionable advice.
  • Capacity to operate independently on-site, collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, and handle multiple tasks safely and efficiently.
