Engineering Manager

About the Role

A global fintech company is establishing a new Engineering team in Sydney and is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with a combination of strong leadership skills and technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and guide a software engineering team composed of members at various skill levels.
• Collaborate with senior engineers on designing system architecture and refining technical solutions.
• Work closely alongside the Product team to align engineering efforts with product goals.
• Oversee incident management and ensure operational preparedness.
• Mentor engineers and support their professional growth and career progression.
• Conduct hiring processes, manage employee performance, and implement retention strategies.
• Coordinate with engineering teams and stakeholders based in Europe.
• Contribute to shaping the organizational structure, culture, and technology roadmap of the Sydney team.

Candidate Profile

• Demonstrated experience in engineering management or leadership roles.
• Preferably 3 to 5 years of experience managing teams.
• Experience leading engineering teams of about 6 to 7 members.
• Strong software engineering foundation and technical comprehension.
• Familiarity with technologies such as Python, Django, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and AWS.
• Solid grasp of software architecture principles and system design.
• Capability to engage in technical discussions with senior engineers.

While the role does not require day-to-day coding, sufficient technical knowledge is essential for participation in architectural and design deliberations.

Additional Information

Background in payments, fintech, or banking domains is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates with solid engineering management experience in high-scale settings, involving distributed systems, transactional platforms, or complex SaaS offerings, will also be considered.
