We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for developing secure, scalable, and high-performance propagation components for the next-generation Identity and Access Management (IAM) Control Plane infrastructure at AWS.
About AWS IAM
AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) allows customers to protect their cloud workloads by offering authentication and authorization capabilities across all AWS services. IAM powers one of the largest distributed systems globally, handling billions of transactions per second.
The IAM Control Plane team is innovating a new architecture aimed at enhancing the system's scalability and availability. This group will design and deliver highly available, resilient, secure, and distributed propagation services linking the IAM control plane with the data plane.
Organization Context
Within AWS Utility Computing (UC), this role supports cutting-edge developments across Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity applications. The UC team delivers foundational services such as Amazon S3 and EC2 and provides specialized security solutions for diverse AWS customers.
Primary Responsibilities

- Maintain operational ownership of globally used low-latency, high-availability authentication and authorization services.
- Drive talent management activities including recruitment, mentorship, coaching, retention, and performance appraisal for a top-tier engineering team.
- Report on development progress, quality assurance, operational status, and system performance to senior leadership.
- Ensure continuous optimization of operational metrics and automation tooling associated with team software.
- Manage daily engineering activities adhering to Agile/Scrum methodologies, delivering projects on schedule.
About the Team
AWS IAM is essential for cloud security, providing scalable authentication and authorization services utilized by all AWS customers. The control plane hosts numerous services, workflows, and APIs enabling management of users, roles, credentials, and policies. The data plane processes nearly all AWS requests, ensuring high throughput with millisecond latency.
