Role Summary
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of 5 to 10 Machine Learning Engineers focused on AI systems underpinning our digital forensics technologies. The role involves recruiting, mentoring, performance management, and elevating AI/ML engineering standards and practices. The team is distributed between Canada and Sweden and functions cross-functionally with Software Engineers and SDETs organized by missions such as Search and Enrichment.
Key Responsibilities

- Provide close technical guidance, identify risks, and support trade-off decision-making by collaborating with Tech Leads.
- Mentor engineers to navigate complex projects, encourage ownership, and deliver constructive feedback to foster growth.
- Promote an experimental and safe environment to test ideas, measure impact, and learn rapidly from data and team insights.
- Collaborate closely with Product, UX, and engineering leadership to align work with roadmap goals and user needs.
- Enhance communication and trust within a distributed team across multiple time zones, leveraging this diversity as an advantage.
- Lead the adoption and standards definition for AI-assisted software development tools, balancing potential benefits against associated risks.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 3 years managing engineering teams with proven success in team health, delivery, and coaching senior engineers.
- Hands-on experience building practical AI/ML systems, able to assess quality and engage deeply in technical discussions.
- Strong mentorship skills, providing direct and actionable coaching to senior-level engineers.
- Excellent technical judgment for making complex decisions and creating maintainable, adaptable solutions.
- Effective cross-functional communicator skilled at integrating engineering with product and UX for holistic system success.
- Experienced in managing distributed teams and fostering cohesion without physical proximity.
- Knowledge of AI-assisted development methodologies and their impact on engineering processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to high-pressure sectors such as security, healthcare, or legal where accuracy is critical.
- Experience implementing AI/ML in environments with deployment constraints like edge or air-gapped systems.
- Background in designing and operating scalable, distributed architectures.
- Familiarity with MLOps practices including experiment tracking, model versioning, and continuous integration for machine learning.
Compensation and Benefits
This position offers an annual salary ranging between 160000 and 210000 Canadian dollars, subject to location and individual qualifications.
Additional benefits include generous vacation policies, competitive pay, opportunities for volunteering, recognition programs, employee resource groups, and healthcare and retirement plans.
