Our client is an expanding specialist Building Services contractor known for the high technical standard of its electrical and mechanical installations across various high-value sectors. The firm undertakes a wide range of projects within commercial, industrial, and data centre sectors, with individual project budgets up to €25 million. Positioned firmly at the premium end of the specialist building services market, they handle some of the most technically intricate projects in the industry.
With consistent growth and a growing client base, the company is significantly enhancing its pre-construction team, creating an opportunity for an ambitious professional to join the estimating department and shape future project pipelines and revenues.
Work Environment & Projects
As part of a growing estimating team, you will work on a diverse portfolio of electrical and mechanical building services projects, including sophisticated developments like active data centre schemes. The role offers extensive collaboration with engineering, commercial, and delivery teams during tendering and pre-construction phases, facilitating exposure to the entire estimating process from initial enquiries to final tender submissions.
The business welcomes candidates transitioning from engineering or PQS backgrounds, providing structured mentoring and support for those moving into dedicated estimating roles. A culture that encourages technical curiosity and a passion for detail and numbers is central to the company ethos.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop precise and competitive estimates for electrical and mechanical building services scopes.
- Conduct detailed take-offs and measurements from drawings and specification documents.
- Solicit and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Collaborate with engineering and design teams to clarify scope and technical needs.
- Assist in preparing tender submissions ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
- Evaluate project costs and profit margins to guide pricing strategy.
- Stay informed on market pricing, material costs, and industry developments.
- Participate in enhancing estimating methods and tools continually.
Candidate Requirements
- Educational or professional background in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or PQS/cost management fields.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and detail-oriented skills.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence to engage across engineering, commercial, and delivery teams.
- Self-driven, proactive mindset with a sincere interest in building a career in estimating.
- Residing in or able to commute to Dublin.
