Job Overview

The EHS Officer role involves managing Environmental, Health, and Safety documents and protocols on construction projects to ensure compliance and safety standards. This position requires active collaboration with clients, project teams, and contractors to promote safe working conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain all EHS documentation, including plans for EHS, emergency response, and risk assessments.
• Participate in EHS meetings with clients and project personnel to discuss safety matters.
• Report all EHS-related issues to the company headquarters promptly.
• Deliver EHS induction training sessions for new employees joining the site.
• Perform daily environmental, health, and safety inspections within assigned zones.
• Ensure engineers and supervisors secure appropriate safe work permits from clients or main contractors before commencing tasks.
• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across the site, informing site engineers and main contractors of any identified high-risk zones.
• Support weekly toolbox talks by engineers to raise EHS awareness among workers.
• Enforce the mandatory use of personal protective equipment such as helmets, safety shoes, and coveralls for all personnel.
• Verify that equipment like ladders and scaffolding are inspected and deemed safe prior to use.
• Oversee adequate health and hygiene standards, ensuring access to water, rest areas, proper lighting, and ventilation for workers.
• Maintain good housekeeping standards on the site to prevent accidents or incidents.
• Perform job-specific EHS analyses for tasks with high risk to mitigate hazardous conditions.
• Motivate workers and engineers to consistently adhere to EHS policies and standards.
• Investigate incidents and accidents in consultation with engineers, regardless of severity, and communicate findings to prevent recurrence.
• Administer first aid or arrange medical care promptly if injuries occur.
• Keep accurate records of all EHS activities and documentation.
• Establish and continually improve an integrated management system for health, safety, and environment aligned with ISO-45001:2018, ISO-14001:2015, and ISO-9001 standards.
• Conduct training programs on EHS topics for workers and engineers, both onsite and in HR-arranged sessions.
• Carry out hazard identification and risk assessments for critical tasks, ensuring method statements incorporate these findings.
• Prepare comprehensive EHS and Environment Management Plans.
• Coordinate external EHS audits and third-party equipment inspections.
• Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans and conduct drills to ensure readiness.
• Facilitate an effective work permit system to regulate safe operations.
• Oversee occupational health and welfare measures for site personnel.
• Draft EHS-related contract conditions for subcontractors to ensure compliance.
• Exercise authority to halt work if unsafe practices are observed and foster a 'commitment to action' attitude amongst staff.
• Conduct monthly project risk management audits and quarterly system audits to ensure continuous compliance and improvement.
• Report EHS performance status to project heads and incident command heads regularly.
