About the Role

The Distribution Protection Engineer is responsible for maintaining the safety, reliability, and suitability of TasNetworks' distribution protection infrastructure. Collaborating with various teams such as Network Risk & Assurance, Design and Estimation, Operations Delivery, and Network Operations, this role provides expert technical support to improve network performance, manage risks, and enhance protection systems across the distribution network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of distribution protection assets, including strategy development, renewal planning, and investment advising.
  • Analyze and resolve protection system faults, failures, and coordination challenges, implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Review and sanction protection designs, settings, technical specs, and protection philosophies.
  • Create and update technical standards, operational procedures, and governance frameworks for protection systems.
  • Track and interpret protection performance data to identify patterns, improve asset data, and support informed decision-making.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Proven expertise in distribution protection engineering within electrical networks.
  • Strong understanding of distribution protection concepts, settings, and coordination techniques.
  • Experience working within utility, infrastructure, or energy sectors is advantageous.

Employment Details and Benefits

This permanent full-time role is based at the Cambridge Depot in Tasmania. The base salary starts at $136,633 per year plus superannuation. TasNetworks offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
