About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Cable Jointer to become an integral part of our team delivering distribution network projects and maintenance services across the Canterbury region. This role is hands-on and field-based, involving various crucial tasks such as installation, jointing, terminations, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of underground electrical cables and network infrastructure. You will be expected to travel across various sites throughout Canterbury, always prioritizing safety, precision, and superior workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) cable jointing and terminations.
• Install, test, commission, maintain, and repair underground distribution network assets.
• Identify and fix faults in underground cables.
• Interpret network schematics and technical documents accurately.
• Adhere strictly to industry norms, network owner standards, and internal company procedures.
• Keep detailed and accurate work records and reports.
• Be available for emergency response and after-hours callouts as required.
• Uphold all Health and Safety regulations diligently.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

• Possess either the New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply (Cable Jointing High Voltage) Level 4, a previous equivalent National Certificate in Cable Jointing, or a recognized overseas qualification.
• Hold a current EWRB Cable Jointer Registration and Practising Licence or be eligible for registration via an authorized overseas pathway.
• Have a minimum of three years’ experience in cable jointing.
• Willingness and capability to work at various locations throughout Canterbury.
• Strong dedication to ensuring workplace safety.

Desirable Skills and Certifications

• Experience with electricity distribution networks.
• Proficiency in cable jointing, terminations, commissioning, and testing of underground assets.
• Valid First Aid certification.
• Certifications related to Traffic Management such as TTM Worker, TMO, or STMS.
• Authorizations for network access and high-risk work.
• Possession of a Class 2 Driver Licence.
