About the Role

At Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland, the Director e-Research will lead and develop the University's e-Research capabilities, overseeing digital infrastructure, services, and partnerships that support exceptional research across a broad range of disciplines. This critical leadership position is integral to evolving a unified, strategic e-Research framework that aligns with the University's investment in its research ecosystem.

In this role, you will spearhead initiatives across AI-driven research, advanced computing, research data services, and digital research platforms. You will collaborate closely with academic leaders, researchers, and professional teams to enhance the University’s standing nationally and internationally in the e-Research arena, promoting innovative collaboration and impactful research outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Steer the strategic vision and execution of e-Research efforts institution-wide.
  • Shape research infrastructure, data services, and digital platforms to empower world-class research.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate capabilities across faculties and research entities.
  • Strengthen partnerships within and beyond the University, including national and global e-Research networks.
  • Contribute as a senior leader within Digital Services to broader digital strategy and institutional goals.

Candidate Profile

  • Extensive leadership experience in complex research, technology, or digital innovation contexts, managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to design and implement strategic transformations and investment plans yielding durable impact.
  • Deep knowledge of digital infrastructure, advanced computing, AI-enhanced research methods, and research data management.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement aptitude, capable of influencing senior leadership and navigating governance structures.
  • Strong commercial and financial insight combined with a commitment to research excellence through collaborative innovation and effective service delivery.
  • Experience in the tertiary education sector preferred but not mandatory; candidates from research institutions, government, and technology sectors are encouraged to apply.
