Role Overview

We are seeking an intermediate software developer to enhance our product by delivering impactful features and improvements. This position involves taking ownership of projects of small to medium scope, writing high-quality code, and collaborating closely throughout the software development lifecycle including release and maintenance phases.

Team and Responsibilities

The Authorization team focuses on defining and managing permissions across 1Password’s ecosystem. Responsibilities include developing unified authorization systems, cross-product authorization APIs, and supporting services, in close collaboration with teams specializing in identity, authentication, and trust platforms. Your work will simplify authorization for developers, strengthen customer access controls, and guide access governance as our product suite expands.

Use of AI

Our Engineering, Product, and Design teams effectively integrate AI throughout the software development process to accelerate workflows while safeguarding quality and security. AI aids in code review, bug detection, user research, and rapid prototyping. We maintain strict principles incorporating human accountability and stringent evaluations before deployment.

Candidate Profile

• Strong proficiency in Go programming language and independence in leveraging relevant development tools and technologies.
• Experience with authorization or identity management systems, demonstrating a solid grasp of access controls and permissions.
• Ability to work within an existing codebase, adopt and enhance existing patterns and suggest improvements.
• A commitment to quality, emphasizing testing, maintainability, clear code, and documentation.
• Excellent communication skills, including progress updates, early blocker escalations, and clear outcome communication with stakeholders.
• A collaborative mindset that embraces feedback and contributes constructively to team discussions.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in supporting live production systems and participating in incident response or on-call duties.
• Knowledge of optimizing developer workflows through tooling, continuous integration/delivery, testing, and documentation improvements.

What You Will Do

• Develop and deploy new product features, enhancements, and fixes within your team.
• Lead small to medium scale projects, independently managing delivery from planning to completion.
• Engage fully in the development cycle including design, implementation, testing, release, and support.
• Write maintainable, well-tested code and contribute to refining testing strategies.
• Provide clear documentation and share relevant context for peer understanding and collaboration.
• Perform thoughtful code reviews that uplift overall quality and team performance.
• Collaborate with customer support and other partners to analyze and prioritize customer feedback and issues.

Location and Compensation

This is a remote position open to candidates located in Canada or the US. Compensation for Canadian-based candidates ranges from 111000 to 155000 CAD per year, complemented by comprehensive benefits including health, dental, RRSP, paid time off, equity grants, and incentive programs.
