About the Role
The Design Manager will collaborate closely with site teams, estimating, and business development units to lead the design management process on commercial construction projects. This position involves coordinating design efforts to meet client, stakeholder, and project requirements from a main contractor perspective, ensuring project objectives concerning commercial, contractual, quality, and scheduling aspects are achieved. The incumbent will provide inspiring leadership while delivering creative design solutions aligned with program, budget, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate design management processes for commercial construction projects.
- Collaborate with site, estimating, and business teams to align project goals.
- Ensure that designs comply with client briefs and achieve functional requirements.
- Lead and motivate design teams to produce high-quality documentation within scheduled milestones.
- Manage commercial and contractual objectives associated with the project design.
- Provide recommendations for selecting and appointing design consultants to support business and project goals.
- Coordinate with estimating and delivery teams to align design outcomes with commercial budgets.
- Incorporate WHSE considerations into the design phase for safe construction and operation.
Candidate Requirements
- At least 7 years of design management experience within a main contractor environment.
- Proven track record managing commercial projects valued over $300 million.
- Ability to manage design phases through to construction delivery ensuring compliance with design briefs.
- Strong skills in leading design teams and managing documentation meeting program milestones.
- Experience in selecting and appointing design consultants to achieve procurement and delivery goals.
- Commercial acumen to ensure design outcomes are cost-effective and maximize business returns.
- Awareness of WHSE practices to integrate safety considerations during design.
