Data Steward - Classification & Disclosure Risk

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Data Steward who will specialize in data classification and disclosure risk management. This position involves investigating data intricacies, detecting potential risks, and comprehending the underlying data content to support the development of a privacy-conscious data platform.

Primary Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the data inventory including all data sources, tables, and columns.
• Classify data into categories such as direct identifiers, quasi-identifiers, and sensitive information.
• Analyze unknown datasets to uncover hidden personal data elements.
• Perform tests to assess re-identification and disclosure risks.
• Update classification catalogues in response to schema modifications.
• Collaborate closely with the Data Protection Officer to uphold data integrity and compliance.
• Document the classification determinations and underlying reasoning thoroughly.

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency in SQL and practical experience with data profiling techniques.
• Familiarity with concepts related to data governance, data quality, privacy standards, or audit procedures.
• Understanding of statistical concepts such as cardinality, uniqueness, and data distributions.
• Strong analytical capabilities combined with excellent written communication skills in English.
• Capability to engage effectively with system and data owners during investigative processes.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Knowledge of privacy principles such as k-anonymity and l-diversity.
• Experience with techniques like generalization and suppression.
• Understanding of GDPR regulations.
• Familiarity with Python programming.
• Experience with entity recognition, data catalogues, audits, risk or fraud investigations, or research ethics.
