About the Organization

Sooke School District 62, located near Victoria on southern Vancouver Island, is recognized as one of the fastest growing school districts in British Columbia. The district serves the communities of Langford, Colwood, Metchosin, Sooke, and the Highlands, operating on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish and Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, including T’Sou-ke, Scia’new, Pacheedaht, Esquimalt, and Songhees Nations. With a workforce of over 2,300 educators and support staff, the district educates more than 14,000 students. The district prioritizes learning, engagement, and growth through a forward-looking Strategic Plan.

Role Overview

Custodians play a critical part in maintaining a safe, clean environment within schools, enabling effective participation in educational activities and programs.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly starting wage of $30.30
  • Three weeks of vacation initially, aligned with provisions in the prevailing CUPE Local 459 Collective Agreement
  • Three professional development days annually: two scheduled and one self-directed, plus potential additional funding for further courses

Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary school education
  • Preferred completion of a recognized Building Service Worker (BSW) Level 1 course
  • Experience up to three months in cleaning or a minimum of one year in a related cleaning environment
