Job Overview
The Crane Operator is responsible for managing lifting operations onboard vessels, particularly DP2/DP3 class ships. The role includes operating gangways and ensuring all lifting activities comply with safety and maintenance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise rigging equipment to guarantee safe and appropriate usage.
- Carry out maintenance tasks on crane machinery as directed by the Chief Officer or Chief Engineer.
- Coordinate with the project team to align crane operations with project requirements.
- Support deck lifts while maintaining a secure work deck environment at all times.
- Work alongside project managers and clients to uphold stringent safety standards during project execution.
- Collaborate with various departments based on instructions from senior officers or project team leads.
- Examine lift plans and Task Risk Assessments (TRA), and engage in Toolbox Talks (TBTs) prior to conducting routine lifts.
- Contribute to the development of lift plans when necessary.
- Operate ship's cranes and serve as the onboard Gangway Operator.
- Perform cleaning, preparation, painting, and upkeep of cranes both internally and externally.
- Assist with general deck duties as required.
- Participate as a member of the emergency response team as per the muster list.
QHSE Responsibilities
- Conduct all tasks in accordance with training to ensure personal and team safety, along with environmental protection.
- Intervene immediately to stop any unsafe acts by others.
- Maintain accountability through responsible behavior and commitment to safety protocols.
- Comply with all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements and standards.
- Restrict work activities to those for which proper training and authorization have been received.
- Keep work areas orderly and safe at all times.
- Utilize and care for protective equipment and safety controls, reporting defects promptly.
- Adhere to firefighting and emergency procedures relevant to the workplace.
- Actively participate in consultation processes, Toolbox Talks, and HSE meetings.
- Report all accidents and injuries directly to supervisors.
- Follow access protocols, observe safety signage, and avoid unauthorized or hazardous areas.
Mandatory Certifications
- Stage 3 Certificate (Sparrows or Enermech Accredited)
- Gangway Operator Certificate
- BOSIET / FOET Certification
- Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) Certificate
- Helicopter Emergency Response Team Member (HERTM) Training
- Working at Height Certification
- Valid Seaman’s Book
