Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Payroll Coordinator is tasked with ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across diverse employee groups and specialized payroll functions. This includes handling payroll for regular staff, retirees, flight attendants, expatriates, employees with disability-related payroll requirements, as well as managing global mobility payments. The role also involves supporting garnishment processing, tax payroll activities, and banking data maintenance. Precision, sound judgment, and careful management of confidential information are paramount for success. The incumbent must maintain a reliable high-speed internet connection and a secure home work environment when working remotely.

Key Duties

  • Execute payroll processing accurately and punctually for a wide range of employees including retirees and expatriates.
  • Review payroll data to detect and resolve discrepancies prior to payroll completion.
  • Update employee payroll records such as banking details and personal changes.
  • Manage disability-related payroll transactions following established protocols.
  • Process garnishments complying with legal requirements and deadlines.
  • Assist with tax-related payroll functions including validation and issue resolution.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll issues involving pay, deductions, taxes, garnishments, direct deposits, and employee information.
  • Collaborate with departments such as HR, Benefits, Tax, and Finance to address payroll inquiries and concerns.
  • Ensure all payroll activities adhere to company policies, internal controls, and regulatory standards.
  • Support payroll reconciliations, audits, reports, and year-end processes ensuring data accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Identify repetitive challenges and participate in improving payroll processes to enhance consistency and efficiency.
  • Communicate professionally with employees, supervisors, and internal partners regarding payroll questions and resolutions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Authorization to live and work in Jamaica at application time; sponsorship not provided.
  • Experience in payroll processing operations or related payroll roles.
  • Understanding of payroll procedures, internal controls, and issue resolution methods.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, including to the U.S., for business or training.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong accuracy commitment.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information responsibly.
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills.
  • Capability to juggle multiple tasks under deadlines.

  • Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting multiple employee groups or specialized payroll tasks.
  • Specific expertise with expatriate payroll, disability payroll, global mobility payments, garnishments, and payroll taxation.
  • Background in payroll reconciliations, auditing, or year-end processing.
  • Familiarity with payroll compliance and internal control standards.
  • Experience utilizing payroll systems, reporting platforms, and managing payroll data.
