About Restorative Justice for Africa

Restorative Justice for Africa (REJA) is a nonprofit organization committed to bridging the justice gap experienced by indigent inmates, focusing particularly on women and children. The organization promotes restorative justice principles, champions the Rule of Law, and advocates for juvenile justice reforms. REJA integrates technology to enhance access to justice and improve fairness in the criminal justice system, striving to deliver people-centered justice throughout Africa.

Role Overview

The Communications Manager role is a full-time position requiring on-site presence in Abuja. This role is tasked with crafting and executing communication strategies that enhance REJA's mission visibility. The manager oversees media relations, all social media platforms, and digital content creation. Responsibilities include preparing press releases, advocacy documents, reports, and newsletters; coordinating campaign messages; and ensuring brand consistency across all communication channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and apply comprehensive communication strategies aligned with REJA's goals.
  • Manage media relations and oversee all social media accounts and digital communications.
  • Create press releases, advocacy materials, newsletters, and detailed reports.
  • Coordinate messaging for campaigns, maintaining a unified brand narrative.
  • Collaborate with program teams to simplify complex legal and social justice issues into clear, accessible messages.
  • Manage interactions with stakeholders and support various events, campaigns, and partnerships through engaging storytelling and public outreach.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven expertise in strategic communications, especially within nonprofit or NGO sectors.
  • Capability in content creation, including writing, editing, and storytelling tailored for digital platforms, social media, and print.
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools and social media management; basic skills in design or multimedia tools like Canva or video editing are advantageous.
  • Strong ability to simplify complex content and tailor messages for varied audiences such as donors, partners, media, and affected populations.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple communication tasks effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills fostering teamwork within multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • A demonstrated passion for social justice, human rights, or nonprofit advocacy; experience related to the justice sector, women's rights, or child rights is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; additional local language proficiency is beneficial.
